CBS unveils 2024/25 line-up, including Young Sheldon spin-off

CBS has unveiled its schedule for the 2024/25 season, featuring a Young Sheldon spin-off centered on Georgie and Mandy, as Young Sheldon concludes its seven-season run.

Young Sheldon actors Montana Jordan and Emily Osment reprise their roles in Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, which follows the titular couple as they raise their young family in Texas.

Jordan has portrayed Sheldon's older brother, Georgie, since Young Sheldon started in 2017. Osment initially guest-starred during the show's fifth season and later joined the cast for the subsequent two seasons. Additional cast members have not yet been announced.

The new spin-off is a multi-camera show filmed in front of an audience, like The Big Bang Theory. This is a departure from the single-camera format of Young Sheldon.

Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage will take over the Thursday 8/7c slot from Young Sheldon, and will be followed by the sitcom Ghosts at 8:30/7:30c. The new Kathy Bates drama series Matlock will air at 9/8c, with drama Elsbeth wrapping up the night at 10/9c.

Young Sheldon has occupied the Thursday 8/7c time slot since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019. During this period, it also became the most-watched sitcom, a title previously held by The Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory had aired in this slot since its fourth season in 2010.

CBS announced last year that Young Sheldon will conclude with its seventh season. The hour-long series finale will air Thursday, May 16, on CBS. The Big Bang Theory actors Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will guest star in the two-part finale, marking the first physical appearances of TBBT actors on Young Sheldon.

Five years after The Big Bang Theory ended, Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will reprise their roles as Sheldon and Amy in the series finale of Young Sheldon, the show's Instagram account revealed today.

Although Parsons is the regular narrator of Young Sheldon and Bialik has twice lent her voice to the show, no The Big Bang Theory actor has physically appeared on the show before.

CBS announced last year that Young Sheldon would be ending with its seventh season. The final season airs Thursdays at 8/7c on CBS, with an hour-long series finale set to air Thursday, May 16.

Following the lives of Sheldon and the Cooper family in Texas in the early '90s, Young Sheldon became the most-watched new sitcom when it launched in 2017. Since The Big Bang Theory ended its twelve-season run in 2019, Young Sheldon has ranked as the top-rated comedy on TV.

CBS has just announced a series order for a new spin-off of Young Sheldon, which will follow Sheldon's older brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) and his wife Mandy (Emily Osment) as they raise their family in Texas. The new show will be a multi-camera sitcom shot in front of an audience, like The Big Bang Theory.

Young Sheldon will inherit The Big Bang Theory's Thursday 8/7c time period next season, CBS announced today as it unveiled its 2019/20 schedule.

The Big Bang Theory, which ends its twelve-year run tomorrow night, has held the time period for the last nine seasons. After moving to Thursday nights in 2010, The Big Bang Theory grew in popularity to become the highest-rated scripted program on TV.

CBS renewed Young Sheldon for another two seasons earlier this year, taking the show through to its fourth season in 2020/21.

Following Young Sheldon in its new time period will be the new single-camera comedy The Unicorn, starring Walton Goggins. The seventh season of Mom, which was co-created by Chuck Lorre, keeps its 9/8c slot. New multi-camera comedy Carol's Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond, The Middle), airs at 9:30/8:30c. The new drama series Evil closes out the night at 10/9c.

Elsewhere on CBS's fall schedule, Bob (Hearts) Abishola, a new multi-camera sitcom from Chuck Lorre with star Billy Gardell (Mike & Molly), will air Mondays at 8/7c.

The Big Bang Theory's hour-long series finale airs tomorrow, May 16, at 8/7c on CBS. A special behind-the-scenes retrospective, Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell, airs at 9:30/8:30c after the second season finale of Young Sheldon.

To wrap off this special night for The Big Bang Theory fans, the entire cast will join Stephen Colbert on The Late Show at 11:35/10:35c.

CBS to air The Big Bang Theory retrospective

CBS will air a thirty-minute The Big Bang Theory retrospective on the night the show ends its twelve season run.

Titled Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell, the special will be hosted by stars Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco. The special will give fans a guided tour of the iconic sets, reveal the show's best-kept backstage secrets, and feature the cast sharing their favorite memories from twelve years spent on "The Big Bang Theory Stage".

The retrospective will air Thursday, May 16 at 9:30/8:30c, following The Big Bang Theory's hour-long series finale at 8/7c and the second season finale of Young Sheldon at 9/8c.

And as if that wasn't enough The Big Bang Theory for this special night, the entire cast will be appearing on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert at 11:35/10:35c.

CBS today announced its season finale dates for 2018/19, including the series finale of The Big Bang Theory.

After a twelve-season run, The Big Bang Theory will conclude with an hour-long series finale on Thursday, May 16 at 8/7c. The second season finale of Young Sheldon, which was recently renewed for two more seasons, will follow at 9/8c.

In August of last year, CBS and Warner Bros. announced that The Big Bang Theory would be ending with its twelfth season, which premiered September 24, 2018.

The Big Bang Theory is currently taking a short break with a rerun set to air this Thursday, March 14. The show will be preempted for the next two weeks, March 21 and March 28, as CBS airs the March Madness basketball tournament. The show will return for its final run of new episodes on Thursday, April 4.

CBS today announced that it has renewed Young Sheldon for a further two seasons, taking the show through to its fourth season in 2020/21.

"Thanks to Chuck Lorre's and Steve Molaro's outstanding creative leadership, YOUNG SHELDON has been a powerful performer for the Network with an audience that towers over most of the television landscape," said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. Added Thom Sherman, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming: "The Coopers are portrayed by an amazing cast, and we are looking forward to having the gifted writing staff mine even more of Sheldon's hilarious backstory and the warm family dynamic that has made this comedy a favorite with audiences for the past two seasons."

Young Sheldon, which focuses on Sheldon's early life a boy genius in East Texas in the '90s, premiered in 2017. Now in its second season, the show ranks as the second most-watched comedy series on TV, behind only The Big Bang Theory.

The renewal comes as The Big Bang Theory heads toward the end of its twelve season run on CBS. Although the show's producers have indicated they would could be open to another spin-off series if the right idea presented itself, no project is thought to be in development.

The Big Bang Theory will sign off in May 2019 after its upcoming twelfth season, CBS and Warner Bros. announced today.

The world's number one comedy will have become the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history when the series finale airs next year. With a final season of twenty-four episodes starting next month, the show will ultimately have produced 279 episodes since it began in 2007.

"We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close", Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said in a joint statement.

The Big Bang Theory's final season will premiere with a special broadcast on Monday, September 24 at 8/7c on CBS. There's another brand new episode that week as the show returns to its regular night time period on Thursday, September 27 at 8/7c.

CBS has announced its fall premiere dates for the upcoming 2018/19 season, including a double dose of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon in premiere week.

The Big Bang Theory will return on a special night with its twelfth season premiere airing Monday, September 24 at 8/7c. The second season premiere of Young Sheldon follows at 8:30/7:30c. The series debut of the new Magnum P.I. airs at 9/8c before the third season premiere of Bull at 10/9c.

Fans won't have long to wait for more The Big Bang Theory as the show returns to its regular time period on Thursday, September 27 at 8/7c with another brand new episode. A new episode of Young Sheldon, back in its regular time period, airs at 8:30/7:30c. The sixth season premiere of Chuck Lorre's Mom airs at 9/8c ahead of the season premiere of the newly revived Murphy Brown at 9:30/8:30c. The second season premiere of S.W.A.T. closes the night at 10/9c.

The Big Bang Theory has not yet been renewed past this upcoming twelfth season.

CBS gives Young Sheldon full-season order

CBS gave Young Sheldon a full-season order after airing only one episode. The network's order for another nine episodes will take the show's first season up to twenty-two episodes.

Young Sheldon's debut on Monday night was the biggest comedy premiere in six years. Following the eleventh season premiere of The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon held onto a whopping 97.5% of the show's audience.

Young Sheldon will continue Thursday, November 2 at 8:30/7:30c right after The Big Bang Theory as it moves back to Thursday nights.

CBS has issued the press release for the eleventh season premiere of The Big Bang Theory, "The Proposal Proposal", which airs Monday, September 25. Laurie Metcalf returns as Mary Cooper and Riki Lindhome reprises her role as Dr. Ramona Nowitzki. Stephen Hawking guest stars as himself in the episode.

The Proposal Proposal – Amy gives Sheldon an answer to his proposal while Howard and Bernadette struggle with some unexpected news, on the 11th season premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY, Monday, Sept. 25 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The Big Bang Theory is once again starting the season on Monday nights to make room for Thursday Night Football. The show will return to its regular Thursday night time slot on November 2.

Young Sheldon, a new The Big Bang Theory spin-off focusing on the early life of Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas, will air a special preview broadcast on Monday, September 25 at 8:30/7:30c, immediately following the season premiere of The Big Bang Theory. Young Sheldon will then return when The Big Bang Theory heads back to Thursday nights.
