Last night's episode of The Big Bang Theory finished first in its time period and ranked as the night's highest-rated and most-watched show.

"The Holographic Excitation" was watched by 15.82 million people, adding 900,000 people from last week. In the important adults 18-49 demographic, The Big Bang Theory scored a 5.0/15 rating, up two notches from last week's 4.8/15. The show ranked first in total viewers, households, adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34 in its time slot and the night as a whole.

The writers are not phoning it in. As a scientist I can vouch that the formulae on the whiteboards are real, and as a comic book fanbot the comic references are real, as well.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure what's happened to this show. Perhaps they've lost a few of the really smart writers... The first 3 seasons were brilliant... they definitely had some of the funniest moments and lines I've seen/heard on TV. Yet, since the full-time arrival of Amy and Bernadette, it's really felt like the show has lost focus; the scripts don't feel as intelligent, and I get the impression the actors are "phoning it in"... I guess it's simple really: they had a dynamic that worked really well, and was hilarious. Then they changed it. Hopefully it'll find it's feet again soon.
