CBS renews Young Sheldon for a second season January 6, 2018
CBS has renewed Young Sheldon, the Big Bang Theory spin-off which follows nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas, for a second season. This marks the network's first renewal for the 2018/19 season.
Young Sheldon is the most-watched new comedy on any network since the 1999-2000 TV season and is the number two comedy, behind only The Big Bang Theory. The show has averaged 16.17m viewers and a 3.3 rating in the demo to deliver the best retention out of The Big Bang Theory ever.
"YOUNG SHELDON has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it's been on the air," said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. "While the show's DNA is clearly rooted in THE BIG BANG THEORY, YOUNG SHELDON has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can't wait to see Chuck, Steve, Jim and Todd's vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older... and smarter."
The show, which is a single-camera comedy, stars Iain Armitage (Sheldon), Zoe Perry (Mary), Lance Barber (George Sr.), Annie Potts (Meemaw), Raegan Revord (Missy), Montana Jordan (George Jr.) and the voice of Jim Parsons as Adult Sheldon.
Young Sheldon was created by The Big Bang Theory producers Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, who serve as executive producers with Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak.

CBS has issued the press release for the January 11 episode of The Big Bang Theory, "The Solo Oscillation". Laurie Metcalf reprises her role as Sheldon's mother, Mary, and Brian Posehn returns as Bert in the episode.
The Solo Oscillation – When Sheldon kicks Amy out to work solo, she and Leonard bond during a series of science experiments. Also, Bert the geologist replaces Wolowitz in the band Footprints on the Moon, and Sheldon finds Penny a surprising source of scientific inspiration, on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Thursday, Jan. 11 (8:00-8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
The Big Bang Theory is on hiatus over the holiday period. A rerun of The Separation Agitation will air this Thursday, December 28. The show returns January 4 with a new episode, "The Matrimonial Metric".

After this week's new episode, "The Celebration Reverberation", The Big Bang Theory will be taking a break over the holiday season. A rerun of "The Emotion Detection Automation" will air Thursday, December 21 and a repeat of "The Cognition Regeneration" will be broadcast on December 28.
