Annie Potts cast as Meemaw on 'Young Sheldon' July 20, 2017
The upcoming The Big Bang Theory spin-off, Young Sheldon, has cast somebody very important in Sheldon's life: his Meemaw. Annie Potts (Ghostbusters, Designing Women) will be joining the show as a series regular, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as a foul-mouthed and hard-drinking Texan grandmother, Meemaw is nonetheless immensely supportive of Sheldon's talent and intellect. She was widowed when Sheldon's grandfather - his "Pop-Pop" - died in 1985.
Sheldon's fondness for his grandmother was first mentioned during The Big Bang Theory's second season, when Penny discovered that Sheldon's grandmother calls him "Moon Pie", because "he's nummy-nummy" and she could just eat him up. Sheldon's grandmother visited Pasadena in the Season 9 episode "The Meemaw Materialization", to "size up" Amy and judge whether she was good enough for her grandson.
Young Sheldon will star Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) as Sheldon Cooper, Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Lance Barber as George Cooper, Sr., Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper, and Montana Jordan as George Cooper, Jr. Jim Parsons will narrate the show as adult Sheldon.
CBS will air a special preview of Young Sheldon on Monday, September 25 at 8:30/7:30c, immediately following the eleventh season premiere of The Big Bang Theory. The show will make its official premiere November 2 when The Big Bang Theory returns to Thursday nights, where Young Sheldon will take the 8:30 slot.
